Letter from the Principal

Greetings, Pierce Family!

Welcome to Pierce Middle School! My name is Desmond Smith and I have been the Lead Learner/Principal of Pierce Middle School since 2019. I am very honored and proud to serve in this capacity. I know that there are many viable schooling options that are available in the area, and I do not take it lightly that you choose to send your students to Pierce. My own children have attended schools within the district since Kindergarten, and not only do they enjoy school but they have grown academically and socially. I owe much of their successes to the amazing and dedicated staff throughout the district. 

South Redford is a district on the cutting edge in many areas and we strive to be progressive in our practices and beliefs. With the passage of the 2021 Bond, we will be able to go to the next level with our approach to cultivating the whole child. There are several actions that we will continue to build upon at Pierce. These include (but are not limited to) Standards Based Teaching/Grading and continued strides in Culturally Responsive and Trauma Informed Practices within our school. More information about these initiatives will be communicated throughout the year.  Please continue to support us as we continue to support the school community.

Right here at Pierce, we have much to offer all of our students and their interests, from rigorous and impactful academics, clubs, and activities, such as Robotics, Media Productions, Drama, Band, Choir, African American Studies, Conservation, Maker Space, and Spanish language lessons, to the amazing field trips to many locations including Philadelphia and Washington D.C! In short, we have something for you! Welcome once again, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to stop by the school office or contact me.

Let’s make this an amazing year of academic progress, reestablishing authentic relationships, and having a great time in spite of being away from each other for a year and a half. We can do this! Remember, you are loved and we love every student that walks through the doors at Pierce Middle School. It is going to be a great year!
